
U.S. soldier
WASHINGTON, D.C.– A U.S. soldier from Texas was killed on Friday when a levee breached in southeast Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense said on Saturday.
20-year-old Private First Class James J. Oquin, of El Paso, Texas, died of his injuries at Forward Operating Base Orgun-E in southeast Afghanistan on Friday. He was injured earlier when his military vehicle was swept away by the current when a levee broke in the country’s Paktika Province.
Oquin was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Further details were not immediately available, but the military said his death was non-combat related.
