Spain vs Netherland

The Oracle Octopus ‘Paul’ predicted the win of Germany over Uruguay fighting for the third place in the FIFA World Cup on Saturday. The psychic octopus kept at the Aquarium Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany ate the snacks kept in the box containing the German flag which is his unique way of predicting the winner.

The Germans held their breath when the octopus made a slight delay before going for the final pick as the news channels in Germany telecasted this event live.

It is amazing to note that all his six predictions regarding the fate of Germany in the FIFA World Cup 2010 including four victories and two losses have been to the point so far.

But because Paul rightly favored Spain over Germany for the quarter-final match, the Germans are gunning after him as reported by the newsweekly Der Spiegel.

The environment minister Elena Espinosa told the newspaper that Spain is thinking of offering an asylum to Paul “so that the Germans don’t eat him”.

It is yet to be seen if the latest prediction of Paul, which foresees Spain as the winner of the FIFA World Cup Final over Netherlands, holds any water. If it does, he will have the whole of the Spain rooting for him.

And if not, yet another name will be added to the already prolonging list of nations sending him death threats.

So much for an octopus!
