The comedian Robert Schimmel who appears constantly on Stern Radio met with an accident while his daughter was driving on Thursday. His 11 year-old son was lucky to escape without injuries and the 19 year-old girl sustained some minor bruises and is stable in the hospital.

Robert Schimmel has been a survivor all his life beating a cardiac condition in 1998, cancer in 2000 and now cirrhosis resulting from a Hepatitis C infection after blood transfusion he got in the Air Force. He was also plagued in his personal life marrying twice and being arraigned for domestic tumult in 2009 in Calabasas, CA.

He was born to the Holocaust survivors who came to Arizona later. The quipster is now very critical after the fatal car accident. His daughter tried to avoid collision with another vehicle only to end up rolled over to the roadside seriously injuring him.

The twice married and subsequently divorced wag of HBO has chronicled his struggle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000 in the book, Cancer on $5 a Day (chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life.

Schimmel had four children with first wife Vicki losing an 11 year-old son to cancer. Mellisa was the second wife to have bore him two sons but the relationship couldn’t survive after he was charged in 2009.
