love like poison
Movie Review: With it small star cast and lack of a strong story line and plot it’s unlikely for Love Like Poison to make it to the top of box office. The movie is the first film for the director duo Katell Quillevere and Fortnight and was showcased at the last day of the Cannes festival last may. The movie talks about pre adolescents struggles, issues and beliefs in an interesting way which is in constant call for both flesh and faith.
The story revolves around Anna who is a teenager, 14 years and has just returned from her boarding school and about to strictly inherit the catholic faith. Her mother is divorced and looks after her dying grandfather who is not so religious. The young girl attends the Sunday church and falls for the young choir boy Pierre. Meanwhile her mother is attracted to the bishop of the church Father Francois who has his own sexual tensions.
The new comer Clara Augarde is very impressive in her role of Anna and her confused faiths and sexuality. The choir boy is played by Youen Leboulanger-Gourvil and Michel Galabru is the grandfather Jean who supports the young Anna.
The theme and the message by the director is clear – the aspect of sensuality cannot be denied and it’s good for you.
